Fire Completely Destroys Makeshift Home in Bañado Sur

A fire completely consumed a makeshift home in the Bañado Sur area of Asunción on Friday night, leaving a large family displaced and without their belongings. Volunteer firefighters were dispatched to the scene but arrived to find the structure already engulfed in flames.

Richard López Abdala, president of the Paraguayan Volunteer Firefighters Association, stated that the precarious dwelling was entirely destroyed upon their arrival. Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby houses, a task complicated by the area's difficult access and the prevalence of wooden structures susceptible to rapid fire propagation.

The affected family, including children, were reportedly in shock and received support from the firefighters. The home also appeared to house a small convenience store, suggesting the losses may be even greater for the family. Despite the intensity of the fire, no physical injuries or smoke inhalation were reported among the residents.

The origin of the fire remains undetermined, and López Abdala refrained from speculating on potential causes such as electrical failure due to a lack of sufficient evidence. Police are now investigating the incident to ascertain how the fire started.
