Paraguayan man disappears in Argentina while searching for weather balloon

A Paraguayan man, Oscar González Caballero, 57, has gone missing in the Misiones province of Argentina while attempting to retrieve a weather balloon. He was last seen entering a dense forest area near Colonia Mado on Tuesday morning.

González Caballero had traveled to Argentina earlier in the week to recover the balloon, which was part of an academic and technical project. Its GPS tracker indicated a landing site in a rural area near kilometer 22 of Colonia Mado. After crossing the Tancredo Neves border crossing, he faced difficulties with terrain and transportation, forcing him to stay overnight at a local resident's home.

The last contact his family had with him was on Tuesday morning, between 6 and 7 a.m. He informed them he was heading into the woods from kilometer 18 towards kilometer 22 to find the scientific equipment. Since then, his mobile phone has lost signal, and his location has not been updated.

His family, concerned about his well-being, has traveled to Argentina to assist in the search. His children are currently in the jungle with local police, the Argentine National Gendarmerie, and residents, trying to retrace his intended path. They are particularly worried due to a recent brain tumor surgery he underwent, fearing he may have suffered a medical emergency or accident in the remote area without means to call for help. An international alert has been issued.
