Fire guts Lagos superstore electronics section; no casualties

Firefighters in Lagos State have successfully extinguished a fire that erupted at the Justrite Superstore in the Egbeda-Akowonjo area. The incident occurred at the store's electronics section on Akowonjo Road, near Jimoh Bus Stop.

Upon arrival, firefighters swiftly deployed firefighting equipment and commenced coordinated operations to contain the fire, prevent its spread to adjoining sections of the building, and safeguard lives, property, and the environment.

According to Margaret Adeseye, Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS), an emergency call was received around 8:15 a.m. Firefighters from Abesan and Agege stations arrived promptly and launched coordinated operations to contain the blaze. They worked to prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the commercial building.

Adeseye confirmed that the fire was completely put out, and recovery and mop-up operations were underway. No casualties were reported. Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire may have originated from the building's solar inverter system, an alternative power source.

The fire has been put out as recovery of the remains is ongoing to bring the mop-up exercise to a wrap.

The LSFRS stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident. This fire occurred shortly after a separate incident where a gas-laden tanker caught fire in the Ikotun area of Lagos.

The cause of the fire is suggestive of an alternative power source, the solar inverter system, while no casualty has been recorded.
