Fire razes Lagos hotel; no casualties recorded

Panic erupted among residents as a fire tore through the Purple Crown Hotel on Balogun Street, Ikeja, Lagos, on Saturday morning. Emergency responders, however, managed to contain the blaze, ensuring no lives were lost in the incident.

Upon arrival, responders discovered that a room on the first floor of the hotel had been severely affected by fire.

The fire reportedly started around 9:30 a.m. in a first-floor room. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) received a distress call shortly after and dispatched its Tiger Squad, along with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Nigeria Police. They arrived within 10 minutes to find the room severely affected.

The emergency team subsequently contained the fire at Purple Crown Hotel, Balogun Street, along Awolowo Road, Ikeja, Lagos, with no casualties recorded.

LASEMA Permanent Secretary Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed that the fire was contained and that all hotel guests and staff were safely evacuated to a designated muster point. "There was no loss of life and no injury recorded," he stated. Preliminary investigations point to a possible electrical fault in the affected room as the cause.

The affected section has been cordoned off pending a thorough assessment of its structural and electrical integrity. Oke-Osanyintolu commended the swift and professional response of the emergency teams, highlighting their effective collaboration in preventing further escalation and protecting lives and property. He urged business owners and facility managers to prioritize regular electrical maintenance and fire safety measures.
