Five Dead, 27 Injured in Italian Bus and Motorhome Collision

Five people died and 27 were injured in a severe collision involving a bus and a motorhome on a state road in the Rieti province of Italy's Lazio region on Sunday. The accident, which occurred on the SS79 near the municipality of Colli sul Velino, also involved three other vehicles.

The bus was traveling towards Terni, while the motorhome was heading in the opposite direction when they collided head-on. The impact caused a chain reaction, drawing in the other vehicles. The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Emergency services and firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene. They worked to evacuate passengers from the bus and the other involved vehicles. Among the fatalities were three bus passengers and two occupants of the motorhome. Three of the injured sustained severe injuries and were transported by air ambulance to hospitals in the Umbria and Lazio regions.

The SS79 road was closed to traffic to facilitate rescue and recovery operations, leading to significant traffic congestion in the area. Local media reported on the ongoing response and the impact on regional travel.
