Five former Bersatu MPs attend PKR Congress, signaling support for Anwar Ibrahim's government

Five former Members of Parliament from the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (Bersatu) were present at the annual congress of the People's Justice Party (PKR) in Melaka. These lawmakers had previously declared their support for the government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The attendees included Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Indera Dr. Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Kapten Datuk Dr. Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), and Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang). Their presence at the PKR event highlighted the shifting political landscape and the inclusion of representatives with diverse political backgrounds within the current administration's sphere.

Datuk Fuziah Salleh, the Secretary-General of PKR, acknowledged their attendance during her speech at the congress. She expressed gratitude for their presence and support, referring to them as independent Members of Parliament who back the government. She specifically welcomed the representatives from Bukit Gantang, Labuan, Tanjong Karang, Jeli, and Gua Musang, as well as others from Kota Marudu and Pensiangan.

These five MPs were originally members of Bersatu before their party memberships were revoked. This action followed their open declaration of support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, which they stated was partly to ensure development allocations could be channeled to their respective constituencies. Their attendance at the PKR congress signifies their continued alignment with the current government.
