PAS denies claims of members joining new party 'Bersama'

The Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) has denied claims that its members are joining the newly formed Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama). Datuk Idris Ahmad, a Vice President of PAS, directly refuted statements made by Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, who alleged that 15 percent of Bersama's members were former members of other parties, including PAS.

Ahmad asserted that any PAS member intending to leave the party must follow a formal procedure, which involves submitting a written request to the party leadership. He stated that, as a member of the party's daily council, he has not heard of any PAS members leaving to join Bersama. He further clarified that the process for leaving PAS requires members to formally request their departure, a step that, according to Ahmad, no PAS member has taken thus far. In contrast to the alleged exodus, Ahmad highlighted that PAS has recently approved around 4,000 new memberships, indicating internal growth rather than attrition.

Rafizi Ramli had previously claimed that approximately 60 percent of Bersama's current membership consists of individuals who had never belonged to any political party before. He also stated that former members of PKR constituted about 25 percent of Bersama's membership, with the remaining 15 percent coming from various other parties, including UMNO, PAS, Bersatu, Pejuang, and Amanah. Former DAP members reportedly make up less than one percent.

This is because every PAS member who wants to leave the party needs to request, needs to fill out a letter, but there are no PAS members who have done so yet.
