Flash Floods Devastate Parigi Moutong, Damaging Homes and Blocking Roads

Flash floods have wreaked havoc in Parigi Moutong, Central Sulawesi, leaving a path of destruction through Desa Avolua. The torrents carried a heavy load of debris, including logs, tree trunks, and thick mud, which surged through residential areas and inundated homes.

The scale of the damage is substantial, with the Parigi Moutong Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reporting that 12 houses were destroyed and an additional 50 homes were submerged in mud. Residents are now facing the daunting task of clearing the aftermath, with soldiers from the Indonesian Army (TNI AD) providing assistance in cleaning up the affected houses.

Beyond the residential impact, the floods have severely disrupted vital infrastructure. Approximately 500 meters of the Trans Sulawesi Highway have been covered by sediment, rendering it impassable and hindering transportation. Efforts are underway to clear the road to restore normal traffic flow.

The situation highlights the vulnerability of the region to natural disasters, with the community now focused on recovery and rebuilding efforts in the wake of the devastating flood.
