Flávio Bolsonaro Meets Republicans, Reinforces VP Offer Amid Party Resistance

Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, a presidential hopeful, and the president of the Liberal Party (PL), Valdemar Costa Neto, have again offered the Republicanos party the vice-presidential nomination in exchange for their support. The meeting in Brasília included PL's campaign coordinator, Senator Rogério Marinho, and Republicanos president, Federal Deputy Marcos Pereira.

Pereira presented Bolsonaro with an internal survey showing that 17 of the Republicanos' 27 state directories advocate for neutrality, which would allow them to support any presidential candidate. Despite this, Pereira stated he would continue consulting the states and provide a final answer by Tuesday, the day of the party's national convention.

Flávio Bolsonaro is reportedly interested in Daniella Marques, a former aide to Economy Minister Paulo Guedes, for the vice-presidential slot. However, Marques faces internal resistance within the Republicanos party. With the deadline for selecting a running mate just three days away, the PL is actively seeking support from center-right parties to avoid an internal nomination, such as that of Fortaleza councilwoman Priscila Costa.

Last week, the PP party, led by Senator Ciro Nogueira, rejected supporting Flávio Bolsonaro and blocked the nomination of Senator Tereza Cristina. Cristina had personally expressed her willingness to join the ticket if the party approved. The PL and Republicanos leaders also discussed the political landscape in Minas Gerais, where the Republicanos are expected to support Marcelo Aro of the PP, following Senator Cleitinho's withdrawal from the race. The PL is considering various options in Minas Gerais, including supporting Aro or nominating Flávio Roscoe or Vittorio Medioli. They are also discussing the possibility of nominating former mayor Luís Eduardo Falcão, who was previously considered as Cleitinho's running mate.
