Flávio Bolsonaro registers presidential bid, declares 8.1 million reais in assets

Flávio Bolsonaro, a candidate for president and current senator, has officially registered his candidacy with the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), declaring assets totaling 8.1 million reais.

This declared wealth is a substantial increase from the 1.7 million reais he reported when running for the Senate in 2018. The significant growth in his patrimony is primarily attributed to the purchase of a 6.2 million reais mansion in Brasília's upscale Lago Sul neighborhood. In addition to the property, his declared assets include 1 million reais in investment funds, 568,700 reais in bank accounts, a car valued at 133,000 reais, and 103,700 reais in savings accounts, among other holdings.

Bolsonaro's registration followed a brief incident where his party affiliation was fraudulently changed to a rival's party, which his campaign dismissed as a prank. The TSE has also received asset declarations from other presidential hopefuls, including Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (4.7 million reais), Romeu Zema (178.7 million reais), and Renan Santos (795,000 reais). Bolsonaro's asset declarations over the years show a consistent increase, from 385,000 reais in 2006 to his current declaration.
