Flood-hit local units in Rasuwa declared disaster crisis zones

In response to devastating floods that struck the Rasuwagadhi area this morning, the Nepalese government has declared all local administrative units within the affected districts as disaster crisis zones. The decision was formalized during an emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers held on August 26.

According to Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal, the declaration was made under Section 32 of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act, 2017. This designation will be officially published in the Nepal Gazette, formalizing the emergency status for the affected regions. The crisis zone declaration is set to remain in effect for three months, enabling swift and coordinated disaster response efforts.

The massive flood caused widespread damage in the Rasuwagadhi area, prompting the government's urgent action. The Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act provides a legal framework for the government to implement necessary measures to mitigate risks, manage emergencies, and provide relief to affected populations during such critical events.
