Football: TCG, New Taipei FC defeat Mongolian teams to enter AFC Challenge League group stage

Taiwanese football clubs TCG and New Taipei FC have successfully advanced to the group stage of the 2026-27 AFC Challenge League. Both teams secured crucial victories on Mongolian soil in the qualifying rounds.

TCG faced a tense match against Mongolian Central FC. After taking the lead in the 64th minute through Matheus Porto, they conceded two goals, falling behind 2-1. However, a dramatic equalizer by Kim Sung-hyeon in the 93rd minute forced the game into extra time. With neither team scoring in the additional period, TCG emerged victorious 5-3 in the penalty shootout, securing their place in the group stage.

Meanwhile, New Taipei FC also clinched their qualification. They took an early lead against Ulaanbaatar City FC with a penalty converted by Wang Po-ying. Although Ulaanbaatar City FC managed to equalize in the second half, Kaneko Shohki scored the decisive goal for New Taipei FC, leading them to a 2-1 victory.

With both TCG and New Taipei FC progressing, the two Taiwanese clubs will now compete in the main phase of the AFC Challenge League, aiming for further success on the Asian club stage.
