Forest Fire Erupts Near Barcelona

A forest fire erupted in a Barcelona suburb, forcing the evacuation of 25 residents and prompting others to remain indoors as thick smoke blanketed the area.

The blaze began in the Serra de Collserola region, near the town of Tore Baró. Authorities ordered residents in Tore Baró and Ciutat Meridiana to evacuate or stay inside their homes, instructing them to close windows and doors to protect themselves from the smoke. The fire is being fought by approximately 160 firefighters, who are receiving assistance from 12 firefighting planes and helicopters.

So far, the fire has consumed about 35 hectares (86 acres) of land. Experts are pointing to climate change as a significant factor contributing to the growing frequency and intensity of such wildfires. The rapid spread and challenging conditions underscore the increasing threat posed by environmental factors to populated areas.
