Former Anchor "Made" Faces 12 Years for Alleged Chinese Espionage and Bribery

The Liberty Times reports on a shocking case involving Lin Chenyou, a former anchor for CTV, who stands accused of acting as a Chinese spy. Prosecutors are seeking a 12-year prison sentence, citing charges of violating anti-espionage laws, money laundering, and bribery. The indictment details Lin's alleged involvement in receiving cryptocurrency, estimated to be worth around NT$1.55 million, from mainland China. This alleged funding was reportedly used for producing and disseminating videos, including those aimed at influencing a recall election, with Beijing providing the topics and approving the scripts. Furthermore, Lin is accused of bribing active military personnel and civil servants in exchange for sensitive information. Zhang Yuming, chairman of the Taiwan Youth Generation Association for Common Prosperity and a former classmate of Lin, expressed strong condemnation. He stated that Lin's alleged actions are "beyond describing as morally corrupt" and that the severe sentence sought by prosecutors is "justified." Zhang highlighted that Lin's university classmates largely held negative views of him, suggesting a pattern of behavior.
