Former Police Official Implicated in Massive Fake Milk Formula Scandal

A sophisticated criminal enterprise that preyed on the most vulnerable – infants, pregnant women, and those with serious health conditions – has been dismantled by Vietnamese authorities. The scale of this operation, involving the production and distribution of hundreds of thousands of boxes of fake milk formula, is staggering, with illicit revenues reaching over 1.177 trillion VND.

The investigation, spearheaded by the Supreme People's Procuracy, has uncovered a complex 'ecosystem' of companies meticulously designed to produce and market these dangerous counterfeit products. The perpetrators not only deceived consumers with false advertising about premium ingredients like bird's nest and cordyceps but also engaged in extensive tax evasion by keeping over 1.061 trillion VND off the books.

What is particularly disturbing is the involvement of a former high-ranking police official, Vũ Mạnh Cường, who allegedly accepted billions of Vietnamese dong to 'run interference' for the fraudulent operation. This highlights a deeply concerning level of corruption that allowed such a harmful scheme to flourish. The charges against Cường and his accomplices, including production of counterfeit goods, bribery, and tax evasion, underscore the severity of their crimes and the state's commitment to bringing them to justice.
