Former Racehorse Leads Maulidur Rasul Parade in Malaysian Village

A distinctive Maulidur Rasul celebration took place in Kampung Pulau, Kubang Kerian, where a former racehorse named Agung led a horse parade of over 30 horses and 400 residents. The procession, carrying the Malaysian flag, added a unique element to the festivities.

Agung, owned by Nordin Mat, 61, was acquired for free at a year old and has been cared for since. Nordin described Agung as an aggressive and fierce horse, noting the significant effort required to tame him over two years. He expressed pride in Agung's selection to lead the inaugural horse parade in Kampung Pulau, an event that allowed horse owners to contribute to the celebration.

Agung once raced until the age of four and was the most aggressive horse in my stable. It took quite some time to tame him, until he was six years old and reached maturity.

The chairman of the Sri Pulau Rukun Tetangga (Neighborhood Watch), Md. Zohari Abdullah, stated that the horse parade was a new addition to the Maulidur Rasul celebrations. The idea originated from a local horse breeder and was incorporated to enhance the event. The parade served a dual purpose: celebrating the birth of Prophet Muhammad and acknowledging Malaysia's 69th National Day.

Abdullah emphasized the suitability of a horse parade, referencing the historical importance of horses as mounts for the Prophet and their significant role in past global societies, including warfare, trade, logistics, and social activities. The event underscored the cultural and historical connections to horses within the community.
