Former Southern Hospital Head Appears for Second Interrogation Amidst Probe

Warsaw's Southern Hospital is under scrutiny as former surgery department head Emil Jędrzejewski faced his second interrogation at the District Prosecutor's Office on June 22, 2026. Jędrzejewski previously alleged in a media interview that medical procedures at the hospital's emergency department were improperly performed, resulting in complications and patient deaths.

During his latest appearance, Jędrzejewski requested to postpone his testimony, stating he had not yet secured legal representation. Prosecutor Piotr Antoni Skiba of the Warsaw District Prosecutor's Office informed him that this was not possible and rescheduled the interrogation for June 29. Jędrzejewski's lawyer, Tomasz Jendrasiak, was present.

The hospital is currently the subject of two separate investigations. One focuses on fraud exceeding half a million Polish zloty, while the other concerns alleged abuse of power by public officials, including violations of patient triage protocols. The National Medical Chamber is also conducting its own proceedings, and multiple authorities, including the city hall, the National Health Fund, and the National Labour Inspectorate, are inspecting the facility. The Ministry of Health has also commissioned provincial and national medical officials to inspect emergency departments at Warsaw's Southern Hospital and Mazowiecki Hospital Bródnowski.
