Former Tabung Haji CEO's Remand Extended by Four Days

Authorities have secured a four-day extension to the remand of the former Chief Executive Officer of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), a key figure in ongoing investigations linked to a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report. The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (SPRM) obtained the order from Magistrate Ezrene Zakariah at the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court.

The former CEO, described as being in his 60s, was initially remanded for seven days starting August 21. The extended period will run from August 28 until August 31. He appeared at the court wearing SPRM attire, with his hands cuffed, for the remand extension proceedings.

This development is connected to the RCI report, which investigated the management and operations of TH between 2014 and 2020. The report highlighted suspicious transactions and the concealment of information, recommending a forensic audit into past investment decisions. These decisions were cited as the cause for TH facing a severe decline in asset value.

The RCI report, made public via the official portal of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), specifically pointed to problematic investments that warranted further forensic examination. The findings suggest a pattern of financial mismanagement and a lack of transparency within the institution during the specified period.
