Former US teacher sentenced to 16 years for child sexual abuse in Mexico City

A federal judge has sentenced former US teacher Timothy Paul Hitchcock to 16 years and six months in prison for aggravated sexual abuse against two minors. Hitchcock was teaching at the "Emperador Cuauhtémoc" primary school in the Azcapotzalco borough of Mexico City when the crimes occurred.

Hitchcock, a US national, was arrested by federal ministerial police in January 2017. The Federal Attorney General's Office (FGR) presented evidence to the court, leading to his conviction. He is currently imprisoned at the Reclusorio Preventivo Varonil Oriente.

The FGR stated that Hitchcock, also known as Timoteo Andrew Godwin Smith, had changed his identity. During his time in Mexico, he committed sexual acts against two underage victims while employed as a teacher at the school located on Boldo street in the Nueva Santa María neighborhood.

According to the investigation, Hitchcock had a prior criminal record in his home country, having been arrested for various offenses in the United States before his actions in Mexico. The sentence was secured by the Federal Prosecutor's Office in Mexico City.
