Six years on, mother of missing Montserrat Uribe Palmeros demands justice and truth

Six years after Montserrat Uribe Palmeros disappeared, her family and activists gathered to commemorate the anniversary, placing a memorial and demanding justice and truth in her case. The commemoration highlighted the ongoing pain and frustration of a mother seeking closure.

Montserrat disappeared on July 24, 2020. Her mother, Jacqueline Palmeros, who founded the advocacy group "Una Luz en el Camino" (A Light on the Path), found her daughter deceased in the Ajusco area. Despite this tragic discovery, Palmeros asserts that she has not found "Monse" and continues to search for more of her daughter's remains.

The fight for my daughter will continue, I have not found Monse, and I repeat again: I gave birth to my daughter whole, I want my daughter whole, I have not had access to the truth or justice, the system deceived me, it pretended that by handing me a skull I would remain silent and still.

During the ceremony, held outside the Integral Care Center for the Search of Persons, Palmeros pleaded for the memorial to be respected, emphasizing the right to memory and free expression. She vowed to continue her fight, stating, "The fight for my daughter will continue." The family's plea underscores the persistent struggle for accountability and justice in cases of missing and murdered persons.

I demand that the memory be respected, that they do not take it away like many memorials that have been placed and the next day they are no longer there, because it is a right that they cannot deny us: the right to memory, the right to freedom of expression and this also belongs to us.
