Free Health Screenings Offered to Citizens in Atakum

In a commendable display of community health focus, Atakum Municipality, in partnership with the esteemed Nursing Department of Ondokuz Mayıs University, has rolled out a vital free health screening service across Atakum. This initiative, deeply rooted in our commitment to public health, brings essential medical checks directly to our citizens, ensuring greater accessibility and proactive healthcare.

As part of the studies carried out by OMÜ Public Health 4th-grade students, materials and brochures were prepared in a way that the public can understand, regarding Kegel exercises for women preventing urinary incontinence, menopause and its management, heart diseases, early diagnosis and screening methods in cancer, in short. They planned to provide training themselves. They are conveying these trainings to the public.

Our program, previously hosted at the Özgecan Women's Counseling Center and the Şehit Ömer Halisdemir Facilities, has now extended its reach to the Çakırlar Korusu Facility. This expansion reflects our dedication to serving all segments of our community. We are particularly focusing on preventative care, offering a range of services including blood pressure and insulin measurements, and crucial cancer screenings for women over 18 and men over 50.

We are carrying out this application with Atakum Municipality. Atakum Municipality is supporting us a lot in this regard. They send vehicles to the neighborhoods and deliver people.

The collaboration with Ondokuz Mayıs University's nursing students is a cornerstone of this effort. These dedicated students are not only assisting with screenings but are also actively educating the public on vital health topics such as Kegel exercises, menopause management, heart disease, and early cancer detection. The presence of the Provincial Health Directorate's mobile cancer screening unit further enhances our capacity, allowing for HPV, DNA, and colon cancer screenings. This comprehensive approach, driven by both municipal support and academic expertise, truly embodies a 'health mobilization' for Atakum.

At the same time, we have a mobile vehicle from the provincial health directorate. HPV and DNA tests are performed on women in this vehicle. First of all, we inform them about our stands. In addition, we distribute kits for colon cancer. We ensure that they fill out these kits and do them at home. This follow-up is also done by our students.
