Fresh Statistics: One-Third of Children Start School Lacking Necessary Vaccine Protection

Estonia is seeing an improvement in childhood vaccination coverage in 2025, yet significant gaps remain, particularly among school-aged children. While the overall trend is positive, recent statistics reveal that around 30% of seven-year-olds had not received their scheduled booster vaccinations by 2025.

Furthermore, the data indicates that approximately a quarter of young people are completing their secondary education without the crucial booster dose for diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis. This highlights a continued challenge in ensuring full immunization across the population.

To address these issues, the HPV vaccine will again be available at schools starting in the fall, following its availability at family doctor centers during the summer. In addition to the HPV vaccine, school children are due for two other important booster vaccinations: one against measles, mumps, and rubella, and another for diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis.
