Friendship Association Donates 888 Boxes of Diapers to Chiayi Care Center

In a heartwarming gesture of community solidarity, the Zhen Shan Mei Friendship Association has generously donated 888 boxes of diapers to the Genesis Social Welfare Foundation's Chiayi branch. This significant contribution, made just before Mother's Day, underscores the association's commitment to social welfare and its deep concern for the well-being of vulnerable individuals. The diapers will directly benefit long-term care patients, many of whom are in a vegetative state and require constant attention and supplies.

The burden on the family's economy and mental health is immense due to the long-term bedridden care. Diapers are daily consumables, and the expenses are heavy.

Association President Chen Zhen-jie emphasized the immense financial and emotional burden faced by families caring for bedridden patients. Diapers, a daily necessity, represent a substantial ongoing expense. The Zhen Shan Mei Friendship Association, with its core values of public service and education, rallied support from various sectors to collect these essential items. This initiative, undertaken in collaboration with CEO Zhong Feng-rong, aims to alleviate some of the pressure on caregivers and ensure the dignity of the patients.

Chen Zhen-jie specifically noted that many caregivers are women, making the timing of this donation, before Mother's Day, particularly poignant. It's a way to channel societal love and support to those who need it most. Genesis Foundation Chiayi Director Xiao Yu-wen highlighted the daily need for diapers, estimating that each patient uses 10-12 diapers daily, translating to approximately 3.5 million diapers annually for the 800+ patients under their care nationwide. The foundation also provides free in-home services to nearly 3,000 families. Xiao Yu-wen expressed profound gratitude for the association's efforts in mobilizing this crucial donation.

Every vegetative patient needs about 10 to 12 diapers daily, changed every 2 hours, requiring about 3.5 million diapers annually.

The donation ceremony was attended by various community leaders and supporters, including Huang Guo-fang, Chairman of the Chiayi Committee of the Chinese Youth Corps; Li Si-xian, Director of the Chiayi City Government Social Affairs Bureau; City Councilor Huang Si-ting; and Huang Li-zhen, founding president of the Sunshine Rotary Club. The event also featured a performance by a public welfare orchestra, adding a celebratory and appreciative tone. The association extended thanks to numerous individuals and organizations whose contributions made this large-scale donation possible, fostering a continuous cycle of kindness and support within the community.
