From Atomic Microscope Researcher to Entrepreneur: Multi-Scale Instruments CEO Je Won-ho Aims to Build a Measurement Platform That Changes Semiconductor Manufacturing

After dedicating nearly three decades to atomic force microscopy research funded by national grants, Je Won-ho felt a strong calling to bring his technological advancements to industry. Rather than simply accumulating papers and patents, Je, now 66, established Multi-Scale Instruments (MSI) with a vision to contribute meaningfully to the industrial sector.

"I wanted to give back this technology to industry," Je stated in an interview at MSI's headquarters in Guro-gu, Seoul. "Rather than chasing equipment others are already making well, I wanted to create equipment that doesn't exist in the world and pioneer a new market."

MSI's ambition is to become a leader in measurement platforms capable of transforming semiconductor manufacturing processes. The company focuses on developing novel instruments, aiming to carve out a unique niche rather than directly competing in established markets.
