Fu Jen Guard Li Yu-chen Targets SBL for Career

Fu Jen Catholic University guard Li Yu-chen is setting his sights on the Super Basketball League (SBL), expressing a preference for the league over the professional ranks. Li, a fourth-year player, led his team to an 81-79 upset victory over SBL powerhouse Taiwan Beer in the Changyao Cup Future League公益邀请赛, contributing a game-high 16 points with an impressive 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc.

Originally from Kinmen, Li joined Fu Jen after graduating from Nanshan High School. In his junior season, he played 21 games, averaging 6.6 points and 2.9 rebounds, with a solid 41% three-point shooting percentage. He aims to lead Fu Jen, which finished seventh last season, back to the main arena in his final collegiate year.

While many fourth-year players aspire to be drafted into professional teams, Li acknowledges the increasing saturation of local talent in the professional league, describing the draft as a "large unemployment scene." He stated, "I am more inclined towards the SBL; I feel it's a better stage for me to perform." Li closely watches professional games and believes the SBL offers the most realistic opportunity for him to showcase his abilities.

Fu Jen secured the victory under the guidance of head coach Yang Che-yi, who rushed back before the game to motivate the team. Li expressed his excitement about defeating a professional team, saying, "It feels really great.
