Funds for electric bike purchases nearly depleted

Slovenia's popular subsidy program for electric bicycle purchases is rapidly approaching its funding cap, signaling strong public interest in sustainable transport. The state company Borzen has received around 4,300 applications totaling over €1.9 million, with only €2 million allocated for this year's purchases.

Over the past three years, the government has invested €8.1 million in subsidies, facilitating the purchase of more than 18,000 electric bikes, including both urban and cargo models. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy highlighted that these initiatives have significantly contributed to promoting more sustainable commuting methods.

While the current call for applications is closing due to near-complete fund utilization, future funding for e-bike subsidies remains uncertain. It will depend on the allocation of resources within the revised spending plan for the climate fund, which the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning is preparing and is expected to be discussed by the government in the fall.
