Garuda Indonesia resumes flights to and from Jakarta

Garuda Indonesia resumed flights to and from Jakarta on September 8, 2026, after airport operations reopened following disruption caused by the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau.

The airline said services would return gradually from 12:01 a.m. Western Indonesia Time. Each flight would undergo safety assessments and aircraft airworthiness inspections for possible effects from volcanic ash, with operations coordinated with relevant authorities. Passengers scheduled to depart after midnight were advised to arrive three hours early.

Soekarno-Hatta International Airport reopened flight services at 12:30 a.m. under a Notice to Air Missions issued by AirNav Indonesia. The airport was expected to handle about 113,001 passengers and 896 flights during the day. By 8 a.m., officials had recorded 90 flights, including 76 departures and 14 arrivals, with 79 domestic and 11 international services.

Airport officials said they checked terminal facilities, service areas, security points and passenger waiting areas before operations resumed. Crews also inspected and cleaned the apron, taxiways and runways. During the initial recovery period, flight movements would proceed gradually and in a controlled manner to manage departures, arrivals and previously affected services.

Passengers were urged to confirm their flight status through their airlines’ official channels before going to the airport.
