Gbajabiamila not arrested, only questioned over PFIPC scandal, ICPC

Nigeria's Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has refuted claims that Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, was arrested. The commission clarified that Gbajabiamila voluntarily appeared before investigators to respond to questions concerning the ongoing probe into the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) scandal.

Demola Bakare, the ICPC spokesperson, confirmed in a statement that Gbajabiamila arrived at the commission's headquarters in Abuja and was allowed to leave after providing his responses. "The Commission confirms that the chief of staff’s visit was on the invitation of its investigators and consistent with its ongoing efforts to gather all relevant facts in the matter. He was not arrested; he simply willingly honoured an invitation," Bakare stated.

The investigation into the PFIPC controversy was launched following a directive from President Tinubu on July 2, tasking the ICPC with conducting a comprehensive probe and submitting a detailed report within 30 days. Gbajabiamila's lawyer, Jiti Ogunye, had previously disclosed his client's appearance before the ICPC to address questions related to the alleged scandal.
