General Nguyễn Trọng Nghĩa: Find Martyrs with Responsibility and a Soldier's Heart

General Nguyễn Trọng Nghĩa, a member of the Politburo and head of the General Department of Political Affairs of the Vietnam People's Army, visited a unit dedicated to locating and repatriating the remains of fallen soldiers. The visit took place at Lê Thị Riêng Park in Ho Chi Minh City on July 11.

During his visit, Nghĩa stressed that the mission of finding martyrs must be carried out with utmost dedication, leveraging experience, a strong sense of responsibility, and the spirit of a soldier. He participated in a ceremony honoring former General Secretary Trần Phú and other fallen heroes.

The general's visit occurred amidst ongoing efforts to identify and rebury soldiers who died during the 1968 Tet Offensive. The operation, dubbed the "500-day and night campaign to accelerate the search, collection, and identification of martyrs' remains," has seen the discovery of additional remains, including those potentially belonging to Huỳnh Văn Quên of the renowned Tiểu đoàn 1 Long An.

Nghĩa highlighted the profound significance of this work, stating it reflects the nation's deep-rooted "drinking water, remembering its source" philosophy and honors the sacrifices of those who fought for the country's independence and freedom. He urged current generations to exert their utmost efforts to fulfill the Party's directives and meet the expectations of the people, especially the families of the fallen.
