German Weather Service: Unusually warm July in Berlin and Brandenburg

Berlin and Brandenburg experienced an unusually warm July, despite higher-than-average rainfall in the capital, according to preliminary data from the German Weather Service (DWD).

In Berlin, the average temperature for July reached 19.7 degrees Celsius. This marks a significant increase, being 1.4 degrees Celsius warmer than the long-term average. Brandenburg also saw above-average temperatures, with an average of 19.2 degrees Celsius, which is 1.3 degrees Celsius above its reference value. These averages incorporate both daytime highs and nighttime lows.

While the region experienced high temperatures, with maximums reaching 35 degrees Celsius on July 30th, Berlin also recorded substantial rainfall. The city received 68 liters of rain per square meter, exceeding the average of 54 liters per square meter from the climate reference period by a quarter. In contrast, Brandenburg experienced slightly below-average rainfall, with 50 liters per square meter.

The DWD's report highlights a deviation from typical July weather patterns, characterized by both elevated temperatures and, in Berlin's case, increased precipitation.
