Germany's North Braces for More Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain

Northern Germany, including Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg, faces the possibility of strong thunderstorms on Friday, following severe storms the previous evening. The German Weather Service (DWD) warns of potential "unwetterpotenzial" (severe weather potential) due to heavy rain.

Localized severe weather could bring gusts of wind up to 80 kilometers per hour, hail, and intense downpours of up to 35 liters per square meter in a short time. The day will start with clouds and scattered showers, with more significant thunderstorms developing later. Temperatures will range from 21 degrees Celsius on Fehmarn to 25 degrees Celsius near Hamburg, accompanied by a light to moderate north wind.

The weekend outlook suggests showers and isolated thunderstorms overnight into Saturday, with fog possible in some areas. Lows will be between 13 and 17 degrees Celsius. Saturday will see a mix of sun and clouds with a low risk of showers, with highs reaching 24 degrees Celsius in Hamburg and 14 degrees Celsius on the islands. Sunday is expected to be pleasant and dry, with temperatures up to 26 degrees Celsius in Hamburg and Lübeck. However, the DWD indicates that isolated showers and thunderstorms may return by the beginning of the following week.
