Germany: US Troop Withdrawal Expected, Calls for More European NATO Role

Germany's defense minister, Boris Pistorius, has responded to the US administration's announcement of a phased withdrawal of 5,000 troops from Germany by stating it was an expected development. In comments reported by Die Zeit and Deutsche Welle, Pistorius emphasized the need for NATO to become more Europeanized, asserting that Europeans must shoulder more responsibility for their own security.
