Ghana stripped of historic Commonwealth relay bronze

Ghana's men's 4x100m relay team has been denied a historic bronze medal at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games following a dramatic appeal by Canada. The Ghanaian quartet had briefly celebrated securing the medal, which would have been their first podium finish in the event since 1974.

Canada, originally finishing second, was disqualified, leading to Nigeria being promoted to silver and Ghana's team – Joseph Paul Amoah, Ibrahim Fuseini, Barnabas Aggerh, and Benjamin Azamati – moving up to claim bronze with a time of 38.13 seconds. This result would have marked a significant achievement for Ghanaian athletics.

However, Canada successfully challenged its disqualification, and officials reinstated the North American nation to second place. This ruling restored the original podium order, with Australia taking gold, Canada silver, and Nigeria bronze.

Consequently, Ghana dropped back to fourth place, missing out on a medal by a narrow margin after a strong performance. Despite the disappointment, the team's time of 38.13 seconds against a competitive field highlights their potential.
