Glasgow 2026: Amadu Mohammed wins bronze in boxing

Bantamweight boxer Amadu Mohammed clinched Ghana's second medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, earning a bronze in the men's 55kg category in Glasgow. The reigning African Games champion's path to gold was halted by a narrow 4-1 split decision loss to Australia's Dixon Jye in the semi-final.

Mohammed began the fight strongly, winning the first round with all five judges scoring in his favor. However, Jye mounted a comeback in the second round, securing it on four out of five scorecards. The Australian maintained his momentum into the final round. Despite a determined effort from the Ghanaian boxer, who landed several clean punches late in the fight, Jye did enough to secure the victory.

Under Commonwealth Games boxing regulations, both semi-final losers are awarded bronze medals. This guaranteed Mohammed a spot on the podium. The bronze medal marks Ghana's second medal of the Games, following Zinabu Issah's silver in the women's F57 shot put. The medal strengthens Team Ghana's overall performance as the Games approach their conclusion.
