Netflix is set to premiere "Aku Sebelum Aku," an Indonesian original film directed by Gina S. Noer, on July 16, 2026. The movie delves into the pressures faced by gifted teenagers, drawing inspiration from Noer's own journey to understand her family's past.

During a press conference in Jakarta on July 11, 2026, Noer shared that the film's concept emerged from a conversation with her younger son. He inquired about his grandmother's experiences growing up in post-independence Indonesia. This question prompted Noer to realize her own limited understanding of her family's history and how past events shaped her parents' lives and parenting styles.

"That question made me realize that I didn't really know my family's history or had never truly looked at the situation of my parents when they were growing up, to how colonialism shaped our relationships until now," Gina stated. This realization fueled the creation of "Aku Sebelum Aku," a film examining parent-child dynamics, unresolved emotional wounds, and the quest for self-identity.

Noer described the film as a "love letter" to those navigating difficult times, emphasizing the power of storytelling in self-understanding and healing.
