Glasgow, Scotland, is aglow with the start of the 23rd Commonwealth Games, welcoming athletes from 74 Commonwealth Games Associations. This marks Scotland's fourth time hosting the event, with the games running from July 23 to August 2, showcasing approximately 3,000 athletes competing for 215 gold medals across 10 sports and six Para sports.

Team Nigeria arrives in Glasgow with aspirations to surpass its previous records at the multi-sport event. The Nigerian contingent is particularly focused on excelling in sports where they hold a comparative advantage, including boxing, judo, weightlifting, and Para sports. The country's Para weightlifters are especially expected to be key medal contenders.

Combined with federal government bonuses, a gold medalist could earn up to $8,000. Additionally, athletes and officials receive ₦500,000 for transportation to camps.
