Wolves May Attract FIFA Sanctions After Arokodare’s Training Ground Drama

Wolverhampton Wanderers is embroiled in a disciplinary crisis that could lead to FIFA sanctions following a dramatic confrontation at the club's Compton Park training ground involving striker Tolu Arokodare. The dispute, initially a transfer disagreement, escalated when Arokodare reportedly refused to leave the pitch after being instructed not to train with the first team.

This refusal forced club officials to cancel the entire first-team training session, disrupting preparations and reportedly altering the club's atmosphere. Following the incident, security was increased at Compton Park to prevent Arokodare from accessing training facilities. He has been excluded from first-team activities and omitted from the squad traveling for a pre-season fixture.

Manager Cesar Peixoto's decision to leave Arokodare out of the pre-season camp in Portugal and the subsequent signing of experienced striker Raul Jimenez clearly indicate the Nigerian is not part of the manager's plans. Arokodare has expressed his desire to leave this summer, but his departure is stalled as Wolves seek over €20 million to recoup their initial investment.

The timing of this dispute is particularly problematic for Wolves due to FIFA's recent player protection rule reforms. Introduced alongside FIFPRO, these updated regulations, especially amendments to Article 17 of the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players, aim to prevent clubs from isolating contracted players to pressure them into accepting transfers. Clubs can no longer force players to train separately without genuine sporting reasons or medical issues, as such practices are now considered abusive. FIFA sanctions for breaching these rules can be severe, while players remain entitled to their full salaries.
