Google Fixes Choppy Scrolling in Chrome for Android

Google is addressing a persistent visual issue in its Chrome browser for Android users, which has caused frustratingly choppy scrolling since 2023. The company has identified the problem's root in simple frame rate and screen refresh settings, after struggling to pinpoint the cause.

The upcoming update focuses on optimizing Chrome's graphics rendering system. It aims to minimize lag and stuttering, especially on pages with rich visual content, by refining the frame rate processing mechanism. Google stated that its Chrome team used automated tracking tools to precisely locate the difficulties, leading to targeted optimizations.

Further improvements target the Input Vizard feature, which manages touch input transitions, and a revamp of how Chrome handles user interface elements during scrolling. This ensures that scrolling does not overload the main thread. These performance enhancements are currently undergoing limited testing in Chrome Canary and Developer versions to ensure stability before a gradual rollout to all Android users in a major release.
