Government Adopts Regulations on Gender Equality and Circular Economy Development

The Serbian government, in a significant move towards modernizing its governance and aligning with European standards, has adopted key regulations aimed at fostering gender equality and promoting a circular economy. These decisions, made during a recent session, signal a commitment to progressive policies that will shape the nation's future.

Central to these advancements is the newly approved program for financial support to local self-government units. With 45 million dinars earmarked for 2026, this initiative is designed to systematically improve the position of women and achieve full gender equality at the local level. The goal of this program is to systematically improve the position of women and achieve full gender equality at the local level, to encourage the development and implementation of inclusive and sustainable measures through financial and expert support that contribute to the prevention and reduction of gender-based and other forms of violence and the empowerment of women for participation in public and political life of the local community, especially women from vulnerable social groups.

Furthermore, the adoption of the Circular Economy Development Program for Serbia (2026-2030) marks a strategic pivot towards sustainable development. This program, which includes an action plan for 2026-2027, aims to support businesses in transitioning to circular models, enhance waste management, and raise public awareness.
