Government Restores Civil Registration Services in Earthquake-Hit Flores

A high-level team from the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) has arrived on Flores Island in East Nusa Tenggara to restore critical population administration services disrupted by a powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake. The four-day mission, initiated by Minister M. Tito Karnavian, aims to address the immediate needs of residents in the affected areas.

Upon arrival in Ngada Regency, the Director General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil), Teguh Setyabudi, convened an urgent coordination meeting. He met with the Regent of Ngada, Raymundus Bena, and the Director of Population Administration Information Management, Muhammad Nuh Al Azhar, who had arrived earlier at the disaster site.

Setyabudi emphasized that the core objective of the joint team's deployment is to safeguard the civil rights of earthquake victims. "This earthquake has not only destroyed homes but also obliterated vital documents such as electronic ID cards, family cards, and birth certificates," Setyabudi stated in a press release from Jakarta.

To expedite the process, the team has brought comprehensive equipment for rapid recording and printing. This ensures that affected residents can quickly obtain replacements for their lost documents without incurring any fees. The initiative underscores the government's commitment to supporting citizens during the recovery phase and ensuring their essential identification is restored promptly.
