Govt committed to rural development in Savannah Region - Minister

Savannah Regional Minister Sualisu Be-Awuribe has reiterated the government's dedication to ensuring rural communities within the region receive their rightful share of development. He stated that the Regional Coordinating Council is actively working with Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to guarantee that these communities benefit from necessary development projects.

Be-Awuribe made these remarks during the region's inaugural "Accounting to the People" series, an event organized by the East Gonja Municipal Assembly. He emphasized that transparency and accountability to the public are paramount government priorities, crucial for fostering good governance and sustainable development at the local level. Accelerating development across all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) remains a key focus for the administration.

He highlighted that transparency and accountability are essential for citizens' effective participation in local governance. The East Gonja Municipal Assembly, in line with its mandate, has undertaken various projects including the construction of schools, clinics, roads, and boreholes, alongside other social interventions within the municipality. The assembly pledged to continue engaging stakeholders and reporting on its activities and the utilization of public resources.

Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahim, the Member of Parliament for the area, praised the assembly for embracing the accountability initiative, noting it provides a vital platform for authorities to report on their stewardship to residents and stakeholders. She urged the assembly to persist in fulfilling its mandate, stressing that transparency builds public trust and ensures the proper management of public resources. Mr. Kassim Rabiu Yazid, the East Gonja Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), assured residents that the assembly would continue to use entrusted public resources efficiently to improve their lives and ensure development projects reach all communities within the municipality. He encouraged residents to collaborate with the assembly on its development projects.
