Greece: Man Arrested for Starting Six Fires in Four Days

Authorities in Sindos, Thessaloniki, have arrested a 59-year-old man suspected of intentionally setting six fires within a four-day period. The suspect is accused of deliberately igniting dry grass, reeds, and agricultural land across the region between August 8 and August 11.

According to the investigation, the fires caused significant damage. On Saturday, August 8, one fire reportedly burned approximately 20 acres of agricultural land. The following day, Sunday, August 9, another blaze consumed about 15 acres. The investigation further indicates that the suspect allegedly started four more fires in the same area on Tuesday, August 11.

Firefighting investigation units have compiled a case file against the suspect for intentional and repeated arson. He is expected to be brought before the relevant prosecutor. The series of fires raised concerns about public safety and the deliberate destruction of property in the area.
