Fires Subside on Andros and Kalymnos, but Flare-ups Continue on Paros

The firefighting situation on several Greek Aegean islands has seen improvement, with fires on Andros and Kalymnos now considered under control. However, the battle against flames continues on Paros, where strong winds are fueling active fire fronts and causing flare-ups.

As of Friday morning, the Hellenic Fire Service reported a significantly better picture on Andros and Kalymnos, with no major concerns about the progression of the fires. In contrast, firefighting operations on Paros remain intense. Persistent strong winds in the area are hindering efforts to contain the blaze, making the situation challenging for the deployed crews.

According to reports, there have been no new flare-ups outside the main fire perimeter on Paros. The fire remains active, with ongoing hotspots within its boundaries, requiring continuous presence and operational readiness from the firefighting forces. The same teams that were engaged on Thursday continue their efforts across the three islands.

On Kalymnos, 22 firefighters with a ground team and six fire engines are working. Andros has 25 firefighters, two ground teams, and five vehicles. Paros has the largest contingent, with 62 firefighters, two ground teams, and ten fire engines. Firefighting forces are on heightened alert, with particular attention focused on Paros due to the difficult weather conditions that increase the risk of new outbreaks. The primary objective is the complete containment and control of the fires to prevent any further spread.
