Greek Police Uncover Elaborate Scam: Woman Loses Over 50,000 Euros to Fake Electricity Worker

In a brazen act of deception, a fraudster posing as an employee of the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (HEDNO) has defrauded a woman in Volos of a significant sum. The incident, which saw the victim lose over 50,000 euros and valuable jewelry, highlights the persistent threat of sophisticated scams targeting vulnerable individuals.

The police investigation, spearheaded by the Volos Sub-Directorate for Combating and Investigating Crimes, has led to the identification of a 23-year-old local man as a suspect. He is believed to have orchestrated the scam by impersonating a HEDNO official, exploiting the victim's fear of electrocution to convince her to hand over her assets.

The scheme involved the perpetrator instructing the woman to gather her valuables, including gold coins and cash, and leave them outside her residence. A second individual, still at large, allegedly collected the items before disappearing. This highlights the organized nature of the criminal enterprise, with one suspect acting as a phone 'guide' while another executed the physical theft.
