Group welcomes Fiji-Israel caucus initiative

An international Christian organization has lauded Fiji's recent decision to form a Parliamentary Friends of Israel Caucus, viewing it as a significant step in bolstering bilateral relations.

David Parsons, Senior Vice President of the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem, stated that the caucus will not only strengthen ties between Fiji and Israel but also serve as a platform for Fijian parliamentarians to engage with like-minded legislators worldwide. "As Christians, we believe that faith can inform our politics. There’s room for faith in the public square…," Parsons remarked.

Parsons highlighted Fiji's earlier move to establish an embassy in Jerusalem as a clear demonstration of its commitment to Israel. He sees the new parliamentary caucus as a natural progression, building upon that existing relationship and fostering connections with a global network of supportive lawmakers.

Fiji's Deputy Prime Minister, Viliame Gavoka, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, anticipating it will create valuable opportunities for Fijian parliamentarians to collaborate with colleagues in Israel's Knesset and in other countries. "Parliamentarians need each other," he noted.

The International Christian Embassy Jerusalem, with offices in over 95 countries, has been a proponent of Christian-Israel relations since 1980. The organization views the caucus as a vital mechanism for deepening engagement and mutual understanding.
