Guevara Takes Pole Position and Sets New Lap Record at Silverstone

Izan Guevara of Spain has claimed pole position and set a blistering new absolute lap record at the Silverstone circuit during the second qualifying session for the Moto2 British Grand Prix. This marks Guevara's third pole of the season, adding to his achievements in France and Hungary.

His record-breaking lap time of 2 minutes and 1.483 seconds shattered the previous benchmark of 2:01.815, which was set by fellow Spaniard Daniel Holgado. The qualifying session was not without its drama, as several notable riders battled for position and faced setbacks. Among them was David Alonso, the 2024 Moto3 world champion, who was forced into the first qualifying session for the fourth time this season.

Other prominent riders who participated in the initial qualifying stages included Italy's Tony Arbolino, American Joe Roberts, Turkey's Deniz Öncü, Japan's Ayumu Sasaki, and Spaniards Ángel Piqueras, Arón Canet, and José Antonio Rueda. The session saw an early crash for Japan's Taiyo Furusato, whose bike was heavily damaged. Intense competition was evident, with the top four riders separated by a mere 87 milliseconds at one point.

Despite the challenges, Joe Roberts initially led the first session, with Alonso climbing to third. However, Arón Canet crashed, and Alonso was ultimately bumped out of the second qualifying session by a last-lap effort from Zonta Van den Goorbergh. The second session itself was interrupted by a red flag after an accident involving Mario Aji and Zonta Van den Goorbergh on a dangerous section of the track, further complicating matters for the riders.
