Gunmen kill two policemen in Rivers, injure others

Unidentified gunmen have fatally shot two police officers and injured three others in Rivers State, Nigeria. The violent incident occurred Monday night near Mbodo Village in the Aluu Community, Ikwere Local Government Area, during a routine stop-and-search operation.

Reports indicate the officers stopped a vehicle occupied by the assailants. In response, the gunmen immediately opened fire on the officers. Two of the police personnel died at the scene, while two others sustained bullet wounds and were transported to a hospital for medical attention.

Blessing Agabe, the Public Relations Officer for the State Police Command, confirmed the incident on Wednesday. She stated that the Commissioner of Police visited the crime scene to assess the situation and interviewed the surviving officer. The Commissioner has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the attack and reaffirmed the command's commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
