Gunung Paseban Forest in Bandung Regency, West Java Catches Fire

A forest and land fire erupted in the Gunung Paseban area of Kutawaringin District, Bandung Regency, West Java, on Monday afternoon. Local disaster management authorities confirmed the incident and stated that firefighters are actively battling the ongoing blaze.

A forest and land fire occurred, suspected to be triggered by human error and accompanied by wind.

The Head of Information for the West Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Hadi Rahmat, confirmed the fire. He indicated that the cause is suspected to be human error, with strong winds contributing to the spread of the flames. Firefighting efforts are currently underway.

As many as 56 percent of areas in West Java are predicted to enter the dry season in May.

This incident occurs as West Java is experiencing an early and prolonged dry season. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) had previously warned that much of West Java would enter the dry season earlier than normal, with some areas experiencing it as early as March and April. The agency predicted that 56% of West Java would enter the dry season in May, and the dry period is expected to be longer than usual.

Compared to normal conditions, most areas in West Java, as much as 66 percent, are predicted to enter the dry season earlier or advance compared to normal.
