Gwamna Poised for Gombe Governorship Race

As Nigeria's 2027 general elections approach, Gombe state, a strategically located and economically vital hub in the northeast, is poised for significant political activity. The ruling APC's governorship candidate, Jamilu Isiaku Gwamna, is emerging as a frontrunner among the main contenders.

Gwamna, also known as the Sardaunan Gombe, brings a wealth of experience from both the private and public sectors. His career includes roles at the Nigerian Bank of Commerce and Industry and Kaduna Aluminium Company, where he rose to Group Chief Accountant. He later founded Amstrade Ventures Limited and served as Executive Chairman of the Gombe State Water Board. Notably, he was the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), overseeing operations in Jigawa, Kano, and Katsina states.

This extensive background in corporate governance, business, and public administration positions Gwamna as a uniquely qualified candidate. Political observers note that his experience, particularly in managing a large utility company like KEDCO, could translate into effective governance and development for Gombe state if he secures the mandate.

While the PDP's Isa Pantami, a former minister with an ICT background, and the ADC's Bello Bala Tinka, a businessman and philanthropist, are also vying for the governorship, Gwamna is seen as having a distinct advantage. His long-standing involvement in Gombe politics since 1999, coupled with his popularity and extensive networks that extend beyond the state and country, makes him a formidable force. The "Jewel in the Savannah" is watching closely as Gwamna appears strategically positioned to lead the state into the future.
