Gyeonggi Province Introduces New Stamp Book System for Pyeonghwa Nuri Trail Pilgrimage

Gyeonggi Province, in collaboration with the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization, is enhancing the experience for hikers along the Pyeonghwa Nuri Trail with the introduction of a new 'Storytelling Stamp Book Pilgrimage Certification System.' This initiative aims to invigorate participation in the trail's pilgrimage and offer a more engaging way for visitors to connect with the region's unique heritage.

This project has introduced offline stamp books in addition to the existing mobile app (iNavi Stamp-Orda) based certification method.

Recognizing that not all travelers are comfortable with digital interfaces, the province has introduced physical stamp books as a complementary option to the existing mobile app-based certification. This dual approach ensures greater accessibility, catering to a wider range of preferences and technological familiarity. The tactile experience of collecting stamps offers a distinct, analog charm that many still appreciate.

Beyond simple record-keeping, these new stamp books are designed as narrative journeys. Each page is infused with historical and cultural context, detailing the stories and legends associated with the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) border areas and the specific courses along the Pyeonghwa Nuri Trail. This integration of storytelling transforms the pilgrimage into an educational and immersive experience, allowing hikers to delve into the rich tapestry of the region's past and present.

Especially, this stamp book is produced in a storytelling format that captures the history and cultural stories of the DMZ border region and the characteristics of each course of the Pyeonghwa Nuri Trail, beyond simple authentication and stamp collection.

From a South Korean perspective, the Pyeonghwa Nuri Trail holds significant symbolic importance, traversing areas adjacent to the heavily fortified border with North Korea. This new certification system not only encourages exploration of these historically sensitive yet beautiful landscapes but also promotes a deeper understanding of the region's complex history and the ongoing pursuit of peace. By offering a tangible and engaging way to experience the trail, Gyeonggi Province is fostering a greater appreciation for its cultural and historical significance, while also supporting local tourism and economic activity.
